seminar: Objects of Desire
Wed 21 November 2018
6:00pm - 7:00pm
City Arts, Nottingham
Objects of Desire is a collaborative project led by sex workers. Through archiving and exhibiting donated objects, we aim to preserve stories and challenge stereotypes about our work. Objects in the archive range from a lucky set of underwear, to jam and preserves gifted regularly by a client, to a bike used to cycle to every booking.
This event will feature a presentation of objects donated by sex workers from the 2016 exhibition in London, and from Objects of Desire’s current research in Berlin where they are currently preparing for their 2019 exhibition at the Schwules Museum.
There will then be a Q&A - providing an opportunity for participants to ask any questions they might have about the Objects of Desire project.

Including Sex Workers in your activism
Wed 5 December 2018
5:30pm - 8:30pm
Nottingham Contemporary
Come to our sex worker led, interactive workshop that will give an introduction to sex work politics, discuss labour rights, stigma, and legal models, as well as doing some myth busting and exploring the stories that made our show.
You don't have to have any prior knowledge of sex work or sex work politics to come and take part! Everyone has an opinion on sex work - this is a chance to come and discuss and listen to sex workers themselves and see how to include sex workers rights in your activism.
This workshop is open to everyone.

Arts Action Workshop for sex workers & allies
Thu 6 December 2018
2:00pm - 5:00pm
Nottingham Contemporary
A sex worker led workshop.
We are tired of people making art ABOUT sex workers and we are taking back the stage to tell our own stories in our own words and on our own terms! Come to our fun fierce, free workshop to:
- Share stories (our own, and the stories sent in to our project)
- Explore new ways to tell sex workers stories and have our voices heard
- Try out the process of writing a song/scene together using the same processes we used to create the full show.
No performing, singing or acting experience is necessary.
We welcome all sex workers and allies who are interested.
The workshops are led by 2 facilitators: Alex Etchart and Siobhán Knox, co-founders of Sex Worker’s Opera and Experimental Experience CIC.
Alex Etchart is a queer, Latin-American community artist working with grassroots groups to take creative action. Through Teatro di Nascosto, based in Italy and Kurdistan, Alex works alongside friends in the Middle East to tell the stories of everyday life under war, occupation and oppression facilitating street theatre across Europe and international radio. As a multi-instrumentalist composer Alex works with children, young people and adults using bands and choirs to create and sustain second-generation identity.
Siobhán Knox Siobhán is the co-founder of Sex Worker’s Opera and Experimental Experience. She is a community organiser, a dance facilitator and a queer performance and spoken word artist. She works with marginalised communities and grassroots groups to facilitate creative projects to amplify their voices and tell their stories in their own words and on their own terms. She has experience of working with the sex worker, queer, feminist community and holding workshops around sex worker rights, gender, body positivity and song writing.
